Know how many people said trade Cole Hamels with a wink-wink deal to bring him back during free agency? Seems that Ruben Amaro Jr. may have done that with Shane Victorino whom he shipped to the Dodgers last month at the trade deadline.

Either that, or it;s wishful thinking by Shane’s wife, Melissa, who appeared at a luncheon in Atlantic City on Friday. From today’s Daily News column by Dan Gross:

“Shane will be a free agent after the season, and you never know what Ruben [Amaro Jr.] has up his sleeve. We might be back here.”

Shane Victorino might return to the Phillies this winter.

Quite frankly, Shane may make the most sense when free agency commences this winter. His attitude and demeanor suggests he was raised in Philly, not Hawaii. He just fits here. And, he’ll likely cost a lot less than Michael Bourn.

Regardless of where Shane does end up, he is committed to his adopted home of Philly. Melissa says their Foundation will continue to be involved in Philly.

Seems her hubby feels differently since Monday. ESPN is reporting he has told his agent he wants to sign with the dodgers. since his home is an hour plane ride for wife and kids and parents are in hawaii. While I’d love to see him come back to Philly looks like he has changed his mind.

No doubt his return here is questionable at best. He likely wants too much money and is 32. Most likely, the wifey was just being nice. I do think, however, they love this city. I could see them opening businesses here after he retires.
