The Seahwaks may want to reconsider hiring Pete Carroll as their head coach. He clearly can’t judge NFL talent as evidenced by the fact that he said Mark Sanchez wasn’t ready to leave college for the NFL a year ago.

Sanchez made fun of Carroll’s remark following his team’s win over the Bengals last week. Now, he’s one win away from going to the Super Bowl as a rookie.

Shonn Greene helped the Jets advance to the AFC title game.

Of course, Sanchez was helped by Rex Ryan’s stifling defense and rookie running back Shonn Greene. Greene sealed the game with a 53-yard touchdown run with just over seven minutes left to give the Jets a 17-7 lead. On the day, the Sicklerville, N.J., native rushed 23 times for 128 yards and the TD.

San Diego tried to make a game of it with a 1-yard run by Philip Rivers to make it a 17-14 game with just over two minutes left. However, it was too little, too late. Nate Kaeding also helped by missing a career-high three field goals for the Chargers.

Sanchez was 12-of-23 for 100 yards and a 2-yard TD pass to tight end Dustin Keller.

Defensively, the Jets played typical Ryan defense. At times, you thought you were watching Rex’s Ravens or Buddy’s Eagles.

Jim Leonhard and Pro Bowl corner Darrelle Revis each registered a pick, while the Jets also sacked Philip Rivers two times.

The Jets next travel to Indianapolis where they will face the Colts in the AFC Championship game next Sunday. The Jets ended the Colts undefeated season when they pulled out a 29-15 win in Week 16 after the Colts pulled all their starters. Ironically, now the Colts will have to beat a team they helped make the playoffs by sitting their starters.

Somewhere, Matt Schaub, Mario Williams and the Houston Texans are at the mall buying Chad Ochocinco jerseys.

If the Bengals win tonight, the Texans will make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. However, the team they are playing will also have something to say about that. The New York Jets will take the final playoff spot if they beat the Bengals.

In contrast to last week, when the Jets played the Colts backups during the second half, you’ll likely see the Bengals play all their starters tonight. The reason? A win gives Cincinnati the third seed in the playoffs thanks to the Patriots loss to, you guess it, the Houston Texans earlier on Sunday.

If the Bengals win, they host the Texans next week. If the Jets win, we’ll see a Jets-Bengals rematch in Cincinnati next week.
