You can take Michael Irvin off the field, but you can’t take him out of the Dallas-Eagles rivalry. Minutes ago on NFL Network, Irvin took shots at the Eagles.

Referencing the fact that Steelers wideout Mike Wallace could tie his record for most consecutive 100-yard outings, Irvin pleaded for the Texans secondary to step up, play inspired and stop Wallace.

The truly egomaniacal Irvin showed footage — not of Wallace or the Texans — but of himself catching passes against…the Eagles secondary in the day.

Hey, Michael Irvin, you can spread the hate all you want, but remember one thing: We did this to you.

Then, he went after today’s players.

“I need you to play like shut down corners,” Irvin said to the Texans. “Not like Nnamdi or Asante up in Philly, but like Revis, Deion Sanders and Darryl Green — real shut down corners.”

Michael, just when we starting to accept you in your post scumbag Cowboy career, you go and do this. The gloves are back off, Mr. Irvin. Try not to revert to days like this so NFL Network doesn’t show you the door like ESPN did.

Somewhere in Kentucky, Buddy Ryan is gearing up to watch his pride and joy Rex Ryan try to dismantle the dynasty of the north, the New England Patriots.

However, he also has to be considering disowning the other son, Roby Ryan. Seems that Rob is thisclose to joining the Dallas Cowboys as their new defensive coordinator. Either that, or Buddy did a piss poor job raising his sons and teaching them that nothing good ever came from Dallas.

If the Cowboys-Eagles rivalry was ever more heated than when Buddy coached here, I’d love to know when. From the Bounty Bowls to the pork Chop game, Philly vs. Dallas had it all in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Here are some refresher videos:

Seriously, we better not see Buddy come to hilly wearing Cowboys crap!

Yes, it’s Dallas. Yes, you should try to win at almost any cost. Yes, losing 14-13 in the final minutes on Sunday hurts. But, there are positives to take from the game.

In 2004, the Eagles had the top seed wrapped up and rested the starters in the regular season finale against the Bengals. The Eagles backups got torched by a putrid Bengals squad. The team had no depth, which the Eagles should have used as a warning sign. In 2005, the Eagles were hit by injuries after a Super Bowl run.

The result? A 6-10 season and no playoffs. Anyone could have seen that coming based on the Bengals game.

Chad Hall and the Eagles backups made cases for themselves to be relied upon in their roles in the future.

The Eagles found themselves in a similar position this year with the third seed wrapped up. Studs Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy, Asante Samuel and others rode the pine to rest up for next week’s battle against the Packers.

The backups stepped up and had a 13-10 lead until the waning minutes. The offense wasn’t explosive, but managed 13 points against the Cowboys top defense that includes Pro Bowlers.

Kevin Kolb was far from great. He did nothing to remove the notion that Michael Vick saved Andy Reid’s butt after dealing Donovan McNabb. Could you imagine Kolb being compared with McNabb of 2009 that led the Eagles to 11 wins?

Jerome Harrison proved himself a solid backup to McCoy. He may even have made a point to be included more in the playoff gameplans.

Chad Hall is another small, speedy wideout. A starter? Not likely. A nice No. 5 wdeout and special teams guy? It’s time to believe it.

The defense played well and the young corners played aggressively. Would you want Trevard Lindley and Brandon Hughes starting every week? No. Can they step in in the event of injuries? After Sunday, why night?

While a win over Dallas with our scrubs would have been awesome, finding out those guys aren’t true scrubs made the “meaningless” game somewhat meaningful for the future.

No question, DeSean Jackson had one of the most impressive individual efforts of all-time on his 91-yard touchdown catch-and-run in the fourth quarter of the Eagles win over the Cowboys on Sunday. The speed and acceleration he displayed was something most sports cars can only dream of.

Still, was that the most impressive 91-yard “drive” in Eagles history? For that matter, was it even the best dive to the ground after a touchdown? You decide.

Here’s DJacc from Sunday.

Of course, Randall Cunningham had his own 91-yard drive that ended with an impressive individual effort, and a swan dive by an Eagles receiver.

So, Eagles fans, what marks do you give DJacc and Arkansas Fred for their end zone dives? And, which play impresses you more? Hit us up in the comment section with your thoughts.

Just when you think you’ve seen it all from Andy Reid’s arsenal, he gives us a new wrinkle — Todd Herremans as a receiver.

The Eagles lineman lined up as an eligible receiver on third-and-goal in the second quarter and ended up hauling in a two-yard touchdown pass from Michael Vick. The score, which put the Eagles up 14-7, was the second of his career according to NBC’s Al Michaels. Herremans caught a score two years ago against the Seahawks.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead on a Michael Vick touchdown run. The Cowboys tied it on the ensuing drive with a TD by Jason Witten.

Six plays, seven points. Not a bad way to start a game.

Michael Vick and the Eagles exploded to take a 7-0 lead over the Cowboys in Dallas on just five plays. Vick’s arm, legs and Andy Reid’s balls all had a hand in it.

DeSean Jackson had an opening 60-yard reception to help the Eagles take a 7-0 lead.

Vick hit a streaking DeSean Jackson down the field for 60 yards to get the Eagles in the Red Zone. Three plays later, Vick hit Chad Hall for 12 yards to put the Eagles at 4th-and-1. Reid, usually not one to leave points on the board, showed some nuts and decided to go for it.

Shady McCoy picked up the first. Then, Vick waltzed into the end zone on the next play to give the Eagles the lead.

With the aggressive nature displayed by Reid’s playcalling, the Eagles are clearly ready to make a statement or two: This is not last year’s playoff game, and the Eagles are ready to flat out ball down the stretch.

Who among us still has vivid images of Asante Samuel picking off the Manning morons twice each in the span of three weeks? The last time we saw Samuel, the Eagles Pro Bowl, game-changing, interception machine corner was icing the team’s impressive 27-17 win over the Giants in Week 11.

That was the last time he’s seen live NFL action. The Eagles have gone 1-1 without their star corner, losing in putrid fashion to the Bears and beating the Titans. Although he returned to practice this week, he is not ready to go and did not travel to Dallas with the team.

Asante samuel will miss his thrid straight game with a knee injury. The Eagles miss his game changing abilities.

The Eagles, who are horrific in Red Zone defense, could use Samuel if they want to shut down the Cowboys. Sean McDermott, charged with righting the ship, now must continue to do so with Joselio Hanson starting opposite Dimtri Patterson.

With Ellis Hobbs out for the year, and possibly his career, due to a neck injury suffered in the Giants game, and now Samuel still ailing, we can only imagine Little Red calling out in his sleep, “Where have you gone, Sheldon Brown?”

Say what you will about Asante’s lack of tackling or physicality, the guy just knows where to be on the field to make a play. Despite missing three games this year, Samuel leads the NFL with seven interceptions. You don’t just replace that production with guys from the practice squad or waiver wire.

The good news for the Eagles is that the Cowboys best Red Zone weapon, Dez Bryant, is out for the season. Still, who is going to take care of Miles Austin?

That’s for Sean to figure out, and for us to curse at if Dallas scores Red Zone points. Otherwise, we all need to hope Samuel gets 100 percent healthy for the stretch run, and the playoffs.

Jerry Jones finally manned up and did what he should have done years ago. He canned Wade Phillips. Yes, Bum’s kid is back on the unemployment line.

As an Eagles fan, you have to love and hate this move at the same time. It’s hysterical to watch the Cowboys crash and burn quicker than Randy Moss’ return to Minnesota. Waking up and seeing the Cowboys dead last in the standings with a 1-7 record brightens any day. Knowing your pitiful Sixers even have more wins than Dallas in one less game has to make you smile.

Wade Phillips starts filling out the unemployment forms on the sidelines during Sunday's game.

On the other hand, now the players may wake up. Why couldn’t they just let Wade coach until the end of the year, or at least until we beat them once?

We all know Jason Garrett has been discovered for the fraud he is and won’t really turn around the offense, even when Tony Romo returns. Still, players do take notice when coaches are changed. They know their careers are on the line. They could play better and they have the talent to do so. You don’t go from 11-5 to 1-7 overnight, even with a quarterback injury.

Having said all that, do the Cowpokes scare us Eagles fans? Hell no. Bring it, Jerry’s kids!

Could you imagine the day when a former member of the hated Dallas Cowboys admitted to being a Philly sports fan. That day is here, thanks to former fullback and current FOX broadcaster Daryl “Moose” Johnston.

During the Eagles-Falcons broadcast, FOX was hyping Game 2 of the NLCS and Moose was asked how he liked Game 1.

The Mets have Kobe Bryant, but the Phillies have Daryl Johnston in their fan club.

He said, “I had a great time. It’s a beautiful ballpark. I didn’t like the outcome as my wife is from Philly and we’re a Phillies household.”

With that, Moose just endeared a small piece of himself to Phillies Nation.

Not only do the Eagles have to fly back to Dallas to battle the Cowboys again next week in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, they now have to do it on short rest.

The NFL just announced its playoff schedule for next week, and the Eagles play the Cowboys on Saturday night at 8 p.m. on NBC.

Earlier that day, the Cincinnati Bengals will host the New York Jets or Houston Texans at 4:30. That game will also be on NBC.

Sunday’s games include another week 17 rematch as the Cardinals host the Packers at 4:40 p.m. on Fox. Meanwhile, the Patriots will host the Baltimore Ravens at 1 p.m.

The Ravens-Patriots game is the only one next weekend that is not a Week 17 rematch.
