Hank Baskett and rookie wide receiver Riley Cooper, the fifth round pick from Florida, will be in a battle for depth chart positioning in Lehigh later this month. Cooper officially singed his rookie deal today.

Baskett measures 6-4 to Cooper’s 6-3. Baskett’s had his chances; Cooper’s going to get his. The one who can go up and get the ball on fade routes in the end zone the best will be the fourth wideout and have a chance to do some major damage. With opposing defenses focusing on DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Brent Celek and Jason Avant, the fourth wideout will have space in which to work.

According to a report in the New York Daily News, Baskett looked to the bubbly personalities of strippers to help him get past the fact that his wife Kendra Wilkinson made a sex tape when she was in her teens.

The story says Hank visited the champagne room of a strip club, and also quotes another stripper who says were “insane” when the Eagles wide receiver was one of her patrons. In addition, Hank reportedly visited the strip clubs last year when Kendra was eight months pregnant, potentially lending credence to the fact that Kendra may have been trying to sell the tape long before the public got a glimpse of it.

For someone who was upset because his wife didn’t exactly practice family value when filming the sex tape long before he came into the picture, frequenting strip club establishments seems to be a hypocritical way for him to get back at Kendra. Just sayin’…

From a football standpoint, we still think this whole scenario can’t do much to endear Hank to Andy Reid. The Eagles don’t like distractions and we can’t see them keeping Baskett if he continues to be a reality TV star with baggage. Then again, as long as Michael Vick is around, Baskett’s distractions will be overshadowed.

This week, Kendra was quoted as saying, “(Hank) has been more of a listener. . . . We’re more teammates now.”

That’s great and we’d expect to hear nothing less from a woman trying to save her marriage. She says she told Hank about the tape before they were married.

Again, that’s all well and good, but that doesn’t explain why she shopped the tape during her marriage. It also doesn’t explain Hank’s lack of quotes on the topic.

If Hank were truly OK with everything, don’t you think he’d have come out, made a statement and moved on. The fact that he hasn’t said anything to shut up the skeptics lends credence to the fact that there is trouble in Baskettville — more than just worrying about Hank making the Eagles roster this year. The bottom line is Hank’s kept a lower profile on this issue than he did on the botched onside kick that cost his team the Super Bowl.

In addition, one other thing caught our eye in the story on Philly.com earlier this week. Kendra has now publicly used Hank’s last name. Think that wasn’t a way to show her devotion to her hubby? Is she trying to show Hank that she’s going to leave her Wilkinson days and brand behind? Is she truly giving up her independence to keep Hank?

Jackson is attending to personal business, while Maclin us working with Eagles strength coaches. No word on any injury, although the strength coaches seem to be the dumping ground for dinged up players.

In the grabs scheme of things, this could be good for the depth at WR this year. Jason Avant, Hank Baskett and rookie are getting work with new signal caller Kevin Kolb.

Maclin doesn’t necessarily need the work at this point as he looks to build on a solid rookie campaign.

For Baskett, the extra work is huge as he tries to keep his hold on the 4th spot and his spot on the roster.

Put the three together and you can see Hank Baskett’s NFL career going up in flames quicker than LenWhale White’s.

Riley Cooper, the fifth round pick out of Florida, could be the big red zone target the Eagles have been searching for since Terrell Owens was jettisoned out of South Philly. Today’s Daily News has a nice write up on Cooper, who measures 6-4 and weighs 200 pounds.

More impressive than his size is his speed, according to John Smallwood. His speed isn’t great, but good for a big guy in the Eagles offense.

If Cooper impresses in camp and the preseason, it’ll be difficult for Baskett to make the team.

The Eagles traditionally keep four or five receivers, depending on special teams contributions. DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant are on the team. No shit, Captain Obvious.

That could leave one spot. Baskett was always seen as a nice guy to have for all those fade passes Donovan McNabb was famous for, as well as his ability to help on special teams. The Super Bowl may have wiped that away from the “strengths” column on his resume.

Hank Baskett could become a full-time reality TV star if he fails to make the Eagles roster this year.

Next, the Eagles dislike distractions. (See Welbourn, John; Owens, Terrell.) We’re not sure, but something tells us that Andy Reid isn’t going to be keen on TMZ showing up to ask one of his players about steamy sex tapes.

Enter Cooper. He is what Baskett was five years ago — a young guy with size and good hands and a bunch of upside. Will he ever be a stud? Unlikely. However, tall, serviceable, possession receivers are not growing on trees these days.

Cooper sounds like the type of guy who could seamlessly add that extra something to the Birds young receiving corps. He could also be the man to end the Hank Baskett era in Philly for good.

If Kendra’s really going to have another baby to save her marriage as the tabloids have alluded to, she might want to get crackin’. Hank’s not going to have health benefits much longer.

According to a RadarOnline.com report, Wilkinson is petrified that the growth she has made in terms of maturing into a loving housewife could go up in flames if the tape becomes public.

Kendra Wilkinson apparently has taken two different positions on the distribution of a tape portraying her in different comprimising positions.

While we understand her position, we find it hard to believe that there isn’t a part of her that wants to protect her financial prospects.

According to another RadarOnline.com report, Wilkinson apparently planned to shop the video herself in 2008.

How can you go from outright shopping it, to wanting it destroyed? Maybe she matured. Maybe she has other motives. The bottom line is Hank knew his bride had a wild side when he started going with her and, ultimately, married her. If it is true love, the two will survive this scandal.

Last year, the Eagles were forced to carry four QBs when McNabb was injured and Michael Vick was added to the active roster. The Birds couldn’t afford to cut Brown due to cap constraints and Baskett was shipped out of town.

Now, the Eagles find themselves short at wideout with just DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant as the only ones likely to be on the roster at this point. Kevin Curtis’ career is likely over due to knee concerns that sidelined him most of last year.

With a lack of credentialed receivers on the market, the Eagles could do worse than Baskett. He knows the offense and would be a better fourth wideout than Brown. While we’re not thrilled with the idea of Baskett’s return, we’re not wholeheartedly opposed to it either — as long as he brings Kendra back to town.

The Eagles also are rumored to have meetings scheduled with Justin Fargas. The former Raider has shown flashes of being a decent player, but his best days are behind him. We’d be surprised to see Fargas in Philly next year.

Reggie Brown is being jettisoned out of town. He’s on a plane to Tampa Bay, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“Filed to ESPN: Philadelphia traded wide receiver Reggie Brown to Tampa Bay for the Buccaneers sixth-round pick in 2011,” tweets Schefter.

Brown has been a big disappointment. He showed flashes of being a nice receiver during his first two years in the league. Then, he lost his work ethic and went down hill.

This opens the door for the return of Hank Baskett. While we were fans of Baskett, we don’t want him back. Forget the Super Bowl onside kick, the fact is even Payton manning couldn’t get Baskett involved in the passing game. It’s time for Hank to move on to his next career — Kendra’s boy toy.

However, Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb like Hank and his name has been linked to the Eagles recently. Don’t be surprised to see #84 return.

While the Super Bowl has morphed into one of the biggest events in the nation, nothing beats the sham that is the official Media Day prior to the game.

Looks like Hugh better prep a nursery in the Playboy Mansion

Kendra Wilkinson and hubby Hank will not be having their baby in Philadelphia.

The Eagles released Baskett today to make room for Michael Vick, who was activated from the exempt list. That means the Eagles are using four active roster spots on quarterbacks. That is almost unheard of in the NFL.

Releasing Baskett to make way for Vick makes sense since the Eagles elected to keep seven receivers to start the season. However, why get rid of Baskett? Why not Reggie Brown who wasn’t even active last week? The depth chart as of Sunday apparently had Kendra Brown under Baskett. What changed between then and now?

Maybe Reid wants to give Baskett a chance to land with a team where he might play more. However, then why didn’t he just cut Baskett in tranining camp when his odds of landing elsewhere would have been better.

Instead, this reeks of Reid not wanting to admit the mistake he made when selecting Brown in the second round.

Also, why get rid of him this week? OK, you can understand wanting Vick to practice, but why hasn’t he been practicing since week 1?

Either McNabb is hurt more than the Eagles are letting on, or Kevin Kolb is on his way to the unemployment line next to Baskett if he doesn’t perform well this week. Vick is clearly being groomed to play quarterback soon than later, and ascend to second on the depth chart when McNabb is healthy, with today’s move.
