Phillies, Durbin avoid arbitration; three others submit numbers

January 19th, 2010 · No Comments · MLB, Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies are not a team that likes to go to the arbitration table. They’d rather settle before “attacking” a player in front of a arbitrator. Last year, the team avoided the process by agreeing to terms with all ten players who filed for arbitration.
This year, the team had four players file and they’ve already [...]

CC to face his Daddy on Sunday

October 31st, 2009 · No Comments · MLB, Philadelphia Phillies

If the Yankees are Pedro’s Daddy, then the Phils are CC Sabathia’s Daddy.
While fatman CC has mowed down opponents throughout the last two years, he hasn’t done so well against the Phillies. In three career games, he’s 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA. That is not your normal CC Sabathia.
Last year, he gave up five runs [...]

Cliff Lee is the ace.
OK, I just violated the first lesson I ever learned in journalism class — always present news in your lede.
When the Phillies take to the field at the plush new Yankee Stadium, or the expansive Angel Stadium, for Game 1 of the 2009 World Series, Lee will be on the mound. [...]

Blanton should get call in Game 3

October 9th, 2009 · No Comments · Philadelphia Phillies

Uncle Charlie debated who would start the first two games of the playoffs for nearly 48 hours. His Game 3 pitcher should not even be a question.
Joe Blanton deserves the ball; he’s been consistent all year and threw just 19 pitches on Thursday. He can and will be ready by Saturday, and gives the Phillies [...]
