Good deed for the day: Hug a Mets fan

November 6th, 2009 · No Comments · MLB, Philadelphia Phillies

If you’re looking to do something nice to help lift people’s spirits today, hug a Mets fan. Trust me, a Mets fan needs the emotional uplift a hug can provide. They are a pathetic breed — maybe the most pathetic in sports these days.
Mets fans are so low these days that they count a Phillies [...]

Phillies likely to make a big move this offseason

November 5th, 2009 · No Comments · Philadelphia Phillies

Pat Gillick said he always believed in making at least one big move even after winning a title. He said you need to do it to say on top.
Last year, that move was Raul Ibanez. What does this offseason have in store for the Phils? What do they need to do to stay on top [...]

Hamels doomed to repeat history

November 1st, 2009 · No Comments · MLB, Philadelphia Phillies

If nothing else, Cole Hamels is honest. Sometimes, he’s honest to a fault.
In April, he admitted to the Inquirer’s Jim Salisbury that he spent too much time doing appearances and signing autographs following his 2008 playoff MVP performance. He said that he didn’t prepare for the upcoming season the way he should have.
Quite frankly, it [...]

CC to face his Daddy on Sunday

October 31st, 2009 · No Comments · MLB, Philadelphia Phillies

If the Yankees are Pedro’s Daddy, then the Phils are CC Sabathia’s Daddy.
While fatman CC has mowed down opponents throughout the last two years, he hasn’t done so well against the Phillies. In three career games, he’s 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA. That is not your normal CC Sabathia.
Last year, he gave up five runs [...]

“I hope I can win; I think I can win; I know I can win.”
Former Phils skipper Larry Bowa has said that players and teams go through those three phases on the way to becoming champions.
A year ago, Cole Hamels was an unquestioned ace, a World Series MVP, who knew he’d win every time he [...]

Yanks fan accuses Lee of cheating

October 30th, 2009 · No Comments · MLB, Philadelphia Phillies

Why am I even about to give this issue any play at all? Probably to call this jackass on the carpet and show the world Yanees fans are dumber than Mets fans this week.
A Youtuber called DropsBombs (I guess he drops a deuce in the bathroom the way A Rod drops turds when he bats [...]

Yanks still Pedro's daddy?

October 30th, 2009 · No Comments · MLB, Philadelphia Phillies

Sure, the Yankees won Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday. Sure, they beat Pedro Martinez. However, are the Yanks still Pedro’s Daddy?
According to some sites including Fanhouse, the Yankees still own Pedro.
6 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 8 SO, 3 BB.
Does that sound like someone got torched? Didn’t think so. Had the Phillies [...]

Blanton starting Game 4 vs. ?

October 30th, 2009 · No Comments · MLB, Philadelphia Phillies

Charlie Manuel didn’t exactly shock the baseball world by announcing Joe Blanton would start Game 4 of the Fall Classic on Sunday night. His opponent has yet to be determined.
Sure, the Phillies could have opted to go with JA Happ or Cliff Lee, but Blanton was the best choice. The guy has World Series experience [...]

Dumbest question ever: No. of pinstripes?

October 27th, 2009 · No Comments · MLB

We always thought Super Bowl Media Day was the official host of “Dumbest Questions to Ask a Pro Athlete.”
We stand corrected.
While driving home from a long day of molding young minds as a teacher, your Daily Philadelphian flipped on SportsRadio 660 WFAN in New York to get their take on the Fall Classic from the [...]
